To offer ‘a’ Nutcracker, to reinvent a fantastical universe with the energy of our time, by invoking hip hop dance, to pass on this story to our children and to all those who cultivate within them the nourishment of desire, the search for the unattainable star, the hope of love, always love, with its terrors, its shadows, its uncertainties… by dancing!
By revisiting Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet, Bouba takes us into an enchanted universe, filled with terror, joy and hope. Eleven dancers bring to life this musical bubbling from afar, building bridges between this work of the repertoire and the music of our time, with the virtuosity, generosity and intelligence of hip hop dance. A truly poetic challenge!

‘Hip-hop choreographer Bouba Landrille Tchouda has a big job on his hands. The Nutcracker, a monument to classical ballet, has all the trappings of a pretty tale, but also all the pitfalls of a heavy script. A young girl receives a nutcracker as a Christmas present and dreams that it will turn into a superb Prince Charming. But sometimes life has the flavour of a curiously tart sweet. With twelve top-flight hip-hop dancers, it’s a retelling to be discovered’.
Rosita Boisseau, 5 January 2014, Télérama.fr
‘Here’s a dance that gets you going! Here’s a dance that fills you with wonder! Here is a strong imagination! It’s also a very beautiful dance, with inventive, high-performance figures that have the finesse and grace to serve a story.’
Muriel Mingou, 30 November 2013 , Le populaire du centre
‘…By infusing the energy and hip-hop movement that are his origins, Bouba Landrille Tchouda gives this ballet a boost and a youthful edge, dusting it off and anchoring it in today’s world. At once athletic, but without gratuitous prowess, and tender, but without pathos, the choreographer’s movements are perfectly suited to the subject. The connections between hip-hop rhythms and those of Tchaikovsky are astonishing, and the company knows how to make the most of them. And then there’s Bouba Landrille Tchouda’s sensitivity, the depth of his commitment and the ideas he defends. We’ll be back for more surprises like this!
