In prisons

Dancing to express and share

The Malka company is also developing awareness-raising, introductory and discovery workshops in prisons. Here, the choreographer proposes opening up a dialogue around dance, paying particular attention to the question of meaning.

Initially, he presents his artistic universe to the inmates, followed by practical workshops that introduce them to the technical basics and give them a better understanding of hip hop dance. The next stage is a time for experimentation, trying to put these basic techniques into movement in the service of a shared purpose. Finally, if the setting is right, the participants are invited to give a public performance of their work on the premises of the establishment, in front of the other inmates and members of staff.
